About Louisiana Speed Traps.com Early Warning System
The Speed Trap EWS system is NOT for Speeders.
It is for those people who abide by the traffic laws but get caught in the snares of the Louisiana Traffic Shake-Down!
It helps you pay attention. You become a more alert driver, looking for speed traps and watching for speed limit signage.

The Louisiana Speed Traps.com EWS (Early Warning System) is a system that provides you advanced alerts to a speed trap ahead.
It uses advanced GPS technology, and is deployed in a common GPS unit such as Garmin Nuvi13000 ($85) or Nuvi13500 ($150), which can be purchased at your local Walmart, Radio Shack or  Best Buy and other outlets, or Online.
Locations of speed traps are collected through a variety of methods. Primarily from user submitted information!
The location is investigated using satellite imagery and topography mapping available online.
Through this imagery, a determination is made as to whether it is new or commonly used speed trap.
At speed traps, cops are inadvertently disrupting their surroundings by killing the grass etc. Cops, like most people, are creatures of habit!
This is often visible in satellite imagery. Locations offering the best cover and concealment can easily be seen utilizing satellite imagery and online tools such as Google StreetView.
Elevation is displayed along with the GPS Coordinates and is used to find a hill or changes in the terrain that offer the best cover and concealment.
Once the location has been identified, the GPS coordinates are captured and added to the Early Warning System File, which is uploaded to the GARMIN GPS.

Alert Distance is set by the user. I use 1 mile but you can go as high as 30 miles (This is overkill but it has the capability)
GPS Units can hold thousands of Speed Trap locations.
The GPS unit will alert you when you get within 1 mile of a speed trap, (or designated distance).
It doesn't matter if the cops change up and climb a tree, hide in a barn or come out of an underground bunker. It's the GPS Coordinate that determines the speedtrap. It doesn't matter what's there to hide behind, under or on top of.
If cops move the speed trap, they simply widen the speed trap zone.
Less traffic citations means more pressure on them from their superiors to meet their quota. (Read the Fact Sheet about Quota)
Cop's will get creative that will likely cost them in manpower which means less speed traps for us.
Maximum effective range for radar is generally around 1800 feet for many models. Some boast of a mile or more however, maximum effective range is restricted. Louisiana Speed Trap Early Warning System has the ability to notify you at 30 miles that a speed trap is ahead. However, like the radar, this is well outside of effective range.
With Louisiana Speed Traps.com' Free Early Warning System you will be alerted to their presence. You  don't need to watch for them, the GPS will do it for you..
If municipalities turn to photo enforcement, submit those locations. Alerts for those are at 1/4 mile.

Collecting GPS Coordinates is easy. If your stopped and ticketed...Capture the GPS Coordinates. If someone else is stopped or if you see a parked patrolman at a speedtrap, simply pressing Save Location, along with a single letter for the file name will capture the GPS coordinates. Submit this to Speed Traps.com for analyses and it will be included in the file for the other drivers, if it does not already exist. The old school method works too. Simply report the highway and a landmark such as a school, church or intersecting road and I will find the GPS coordinates. Don't worry about duplicates. I have an automated process for that!

Cops, coming out of their lunch stop, pull over motorists or even build speed traps out of their own personal driveways. No place is off limits. If you see a cop or cops frequent a restaurant, capture the GPS and submit it. If you see a police cruiser parked at a home, capture the GPS Coordinates. Since they will run down motorists from ANY location. Then EVERY location is "fair game"!

Law Enforcement and elected officials trumpet the legitimacy of Speed Traps in the name of "Safety". Lets give them Safety, and not our dollars and watch how they behave.

Municipalities have created a large pot of gold through traffic enforcement. If that pot of gold diminishes, they will have to make up the difference through local taxes. If not, their town may begin the longer journey towards extinction! If municipalities have created an environment with total reliance on traffic fines to support their budgets, it was a bad strategy and elected officials will have to shoulder full responsibility when that communities name has to be erased from a Louisiana map.
